A Bethel bodybuilder body slammed the competition Tuesday at the annual paczki-eating contest at Eddy’s Bake Shop in Ansonia.
Manny “The Manimal” Cambra devoured a dozen Polish doughnuts in 5 minutes in his first-ever paczki-eating battle.
The Polish pastries are not of the light and airy variety. Paczkis are stuffed with a fruit filling and coated with powdered sugar. Fittingly, they are a tradition on Fat Tuesday.
The winner of the contest is usually named Ansonia’s “mayor for a day,” but because Cambra is a Bethel resident, he apparently is ineligible for that honor. Maybe Billy Michael will write a song about him instead.
